Tariffs Force Lotus, JLR, VW, and Audi to Pause US Shipments

Frankly pausing seems like a prudent move. Tarrifs work best when they are long-term, which promotes local industry to provide alternatives.

There's certainly a perception, real or not, that T could change his mind at any moment. So US makers won't be ramping up production anytime soon.

Of course local prices will also rise to match foreign imports. Plus lots of imported parts are necessary. So yeah, prices will go up.

Lots of silver linings here though. Fewer car sales in the US is a good thing for climate issues. And a focus on fewer cars may lead to city planning improvements as well.

Plus, cheaper cars for the rest of us as supply outstrips demand for a while.

I'm not sure that's how it works. People are going to continue driving, but they're going to be driving shittier, older, more inefficient, higher polluting cars, belching more particulates into the air, not fewer.
